I’m sure you already are all too aware of the state of our planet today. If you are like me you are tired of excuses both from politicians not taking the necessary actions and from yourself taking the road of least resistance. We have the knowledge of our destructive behavior and the tools to change this.
In my family we done small alterations over the years but nothing drastic. This all changed when I started this blog. I think we have all the solutions we need available right in front of us. I started using the solutions and concepts available to create a lifestyle where my family and I become an asset to this planet. We started out with the great concept of zero waste and ban plastic, important things all of us can start with today. Now I’d like to know where to find good options for everyday life. Innovative companies that I can use as my new suppliers of the things we need as a family every day!
Food is an everyday concern for us all. Nutritious, affordable, and hopefully delicious meals for us to enjoy. We found a new solution to use that also decrease the food waste issue of our society. My husband found Karma (www.karma.life) a few months ago and this is a concept that really works for my family! The idea is that lunch restaurants, bakeries and so forth connect to the Karma app where they sell their leftovers by the end of the day. You can subscribe to restaurants near you or on your way from work. Usually, by 15.00 they post what meals they sell that day, you buy online and pick them up on your way home! They are much cheaper than normal, usually half the price.
A win-win-win situation for the restaurant, for us consumers, and for our environment, reducing food waste!
I think this is so great. You take an existing business, a restaurant, and an existing product of theirs, overproduction of food, and create a new income stream! Making an attractive product of former waste is an elegant solution! According to their website they have so far saved 350 000 kg of food from being wasted and hence 525 000 kg of carbon dioxide submissions since they started in November 2016. Currently Karma is available in Sweden and UK (London area), and starting up in Paris.
Take away often means a lot of additional waste with all the packaging needed. There is no option to bring your own containers when you order via Karma since they package your meal as soon as you pay for it, but there seems to be an interesting solution for this brewing in the Netherlands! I’ll be writing about that in my next blogpost!
I hope we continue this journey to become an asset to the planet together! I look forward to see your comment on this blog!
Take care of yourself, each other and our planet.
